Hi
I'm new to this but really need some advice please.

Been feeling Ropey all weekend sugars 29+ everyday and keytones up to 4.4 but never lower than 2.2. My local hospital was over crowded and stated emergency only. Seeing as I'm not feeling real bad I didn't think I qualify as emergency. Should I be more concerned?

Thank you in advance

Hello Mellie_P, i would go to a&e and get seen, your not in imiediate danger but you need to be assessed and helped to get those figures down, let us know how you get on.clive

With BG that high...and feeling ropey with it...I would say you definitely qualify as an emergency. If you feel uncomfortable about going to A&E perhaps give your diabetic nurse a call so they can offer you some reassurance.

That is (from everything I've read) classified as a "do it now" ..... "all weekend" bothers me a fair bit.

I wouldn't quite say 'you're not in any immediate danger', but if you don't go under your own steam you could end up being taken under blue lights as an real emergency - always better to let someone else have the ambulance!

A level of 3 and above requires emergency medical care and has been said do not wait go to A&E.

@slip when my grandson was 15 he got set on by a gang of men and beaten severely he managed to find his way home I then took him to the local A&E where he was kept waiting for hours with broken cheek bone, fractured orbit and severe head injuries from the bottles he was hit with, when I complained I was told that as I had brought him in myself he was not treated as a medical emergency and that if I had called an ambulance he would have been given immediate attention. So I say call an ambulance in an emergency and the others can take their chances.

Poor you, that's not nice and yes you are a priority, you have a life threatening illness which if left uncontrolled would need urgent medical assistance.

Have you been taking any correction doses ?

The DAFNE protocol for high ketones is to inject an extra 20% of your Total Daily Dose (TDD). 10% for mild or medium ketones. Repeat every 2 hours until ketones are gone. If you are unable to hold down fluids, call an ambulance or get to Accident and Emergency.

Good luck, hope you're feeling better soon ;)

I am one of these diabetics that has never and will never likely be admitted for DKA as I can deal with it on my own, so far anyway.....but from what you have described I would definitely advise a hospital visit......

as far a whether DKA is an emergency, it most certainly is.....;)....

good luck......

Thank you everyone, your advice is very much appreciated.

Yes been giving correction doses (feels like I'm constantly stabbing myself) but nothing seems to be helping me.
I do not have my own dsn, to be fair I haven't had much support from my hospital at all.
Feel a bit of a fraud calling an ambulance but will do. Thank you so much.
Diabetes can be quite a lonely place ehh.
