Hi, I have been looking at "sugar free" products such as mints, etc, but I notice that on some labels they have high polyols, I am assuming these are artificial sweeteners, apart from the digestive impact and diarrhea risks, can anyone advise if they are likely to cause any harm for T2 conditions.

Thanks

Mark

Yes, you will find 'polyols' listed in some laxative products ...sorbitol sugar substitute is in the polyol category and that goes through me like lightning.
Lactulose contains polyols and that is sold as a laxative.

Many polyols are perfectly natural substances. They are sweet and in general, don't raise blood glucose.
I use Xylitol in some cooking. It behaves more like sugar than the truly artificial products. For example it will reduce to a syrup. I recently made a fig compote with red wine and Balsamic vinegar with Xylitol and some Stevia. The taste and texture were both excellent and the tablespoonful on the plate neither upset my digestion [the Xylitol] nor my blood sugar [the figs]
They are useful because of their tast and texture, but Xylitol and Erythritol are pricy. I mix them with Stevia for economy.
Actually i don't consume a lot of sweet stuff anyway, but when I do I like it to taste NICE

Thanks for all the comments, until I get my levels right I think they are best avoided, thanks again
