Please can anyone help?
I have just bought an apple and blueberry Morrison porridge, the kind you add hit water too and is ready in 2 mins.

The carbs on the label are as follow:

Per 100g carbs - 15.7g
Per pot when prepared - Carbs 35.3g.

My question is why by adding hot wAter does it go up much?

Many thanks for any help.

probably the pot with water weighs more than 100g?

Beware of "instant" porridge, they tend to have added sugar and the oats are more processed. Better to go for "proper" porridge, I use mornflake oats, they take 3 1/2 mins in microwave, so not much longer.

Thank you sue.

I understand the pot will weigh more but why would the carbs go up just by adding water?

I am wondering if it is because it rehydrated the fruit.

Where do you buy the morn flakes from and are they also just add water or milk.

I find the 2 mins hot water ones really useful for work as I don't always have access to a microwave.

Thank you again.

Before, I had my meds, to help me, porridge, nowt added but water, spiked me worse than Rice Crispies.
Since meds it is exactly the same!

Weird ain't it?

You would have thought the reverse, especially that the carb count on porridge is low GI, and crispies are high GI!

Hi nosher

It still amazes me how your body reacts to certain foods.

I like porridge because it keeps me full but sometimes the insulin burns right through it quickly other times not.

If I have toast for breakfast I just go high.

Pasta is another one.

I could go on and on but being diabetic sure does open your eyes to what's in food and how it effects your body.

It surely does, still reticent about some foods, but I have to test everything!

Had a little cheese with my omelette today, as usual with ham and a sprinkling of salad, it went down after two hours. Go figure!

It stayed there till I had a fish and chips for my tea, without the chips!

It doesn't actually go up.
The website says that 100g as consumed with added water has 15.7g carb
The contents of the pot, with added water weighs 225g (2.25 x 15.7 = 35.3)
As others say, the product is made from oat flakes (probably very fine) has added sugar and is likely to be far higher GI than porridge made from rolled oats with no sugar.
