Porridge for breakfast

I have had D2 for about 5 years and am still learning ! I want to pass on some info: that may be useful.
I should know better but have been taking my blood sugar readings before breakfast and not bothering about readings at other times during day. Due to other factors am now on a self imposed low carb: high protein diet. Before I gave up my porridge breakfast for eggs I took a reading before breakfast and got 10 [ideal 4-7]. 3 hours after breakfast it was 17 !!! took all day to come down. I then had the eggs for breakfast and one slice brown bread. The readings before and after were 10 and 10. So, porridge may be good for a 'normal' person but not for me. Hope this helps. Hi Thomas. Yes, porridge does that to me too. Low carb works really well for me.
It's great to find out what works for us with a meter... shame I have to pay for mine as my GP doesn't prescribe testing equipment for type 2's
 
@Tom Cosens I thought porridge was ok for me as i was only testing first thing in the morning and my fbgs were usually under 7.
A couple of weeks ago I tested 1 hour after eating porridge for breakfast, and the reading was 11.9! I had never had such a high reading. The rest of the porridge oats went into the food recycling bin.
 
I was alright with hot oat cereal which I mixed with flax seed but I now tend to have Greek yoghurt with berries and a spoonful of granola during the week and eggs on one piece of toast at the week-ends.
 
My insulin doesn't mind porridge but only tend to have it when no other food in. It is less calories than some meals but definitely a carb.
 
I tested my blood glucose before/after eating porridge and the results were 6.3 and 10. So I have stopped eating porridge and now have a one egg cheese omelette for breakfast.
