possibility of going on pump - advice needed urgently

I've posted this in the general forum rather than pump users as I need some answers quick before seeing doc tomorrow.
Because my blood sugars have been pretty unstable due to pregnancy I have spoken to my GP about going on a pump and she has now made a referral for me to see the consultant tomorrow about the possibility of this.
What are the criteria they will use to assess whether to put me on a pump or not. Obviously I will not lie about my condition but is there anything I should emphasise /not emphasise to maximise my chances?
For the record I have been having uncontrollable diabetes - highs in the mornings, lows in the afternoons, ratios differ wildly at different times of the day, loss of warning symptoms (can get down to the low 2s before I realise) plus I am having to change my ratios/increase my doses every few days due to the pregnancy....does this sound like I'd be a good candidate? I am dafne trained too.

Thanks

Gina

sorry i can't advise, wish i could but dont want you to think you're being ignored. NICE have guidelines I think, maybe google their website it may tell you.

Apologies to the OP but this question has not had any answers from the few pumpers that have been around the Forum today.

So, we have moved it into the Insulin Pump Forum in the hope that they will see it there and provide an answer for you. :|

Hi anti-carb

It's a slightly different criteria than the normal process,

If you are already carb counting, and you can explaine how and why your present regime is failing, what you can achieve with the pump to change this, you stand a very fair chance that the consultant will agree..

You might find though that they will only agree at first to fund the pump through your pregnancy, and you be expected to return it at some point after you've had the baby... But with saying that if they do this don't over worry as if you got the pump you got a very much better argument for funding to be maintained..

Good luck hope everything goes well for you

Just wanted to say its very normal for your insulin requirements to increase I was increasing mine on a weekly basis until the day my son was born

Thanks for your replies everyone well to update you the doc agreed to put me on a pump during pregnancy and maybe even afterwards, only downside is I have to wait for the pump to come which may take a week or two but then its mine (until I give birth at least)

Also saw a really good consultant re the hypos and he has said to take 10g carbs off my snacks before I do my between meal injections, as that will be needed to mop up the excess novorapid which is piling up in my system. He thinks I am taking too much insulin to avoid the high blood sugars, but I am taking my approach a little too far hence leaving some carbs un-injected for as 'mop ups'

So feeling a lot more positive about it all

Cheers
