Post lunch sleepiness

Hi,

I always feel incredibly sleepy for about an hour after lunch (and before you all rush to say, no, even when I have no or very little carbs with my meal).

My BG is under 8 before lunch and comes back down to under 9 2 hours after lunch. I have a shot of Novorapid at lunchtime too.

Any ideas? Is it just my genetic make up?

Hi pinkzinc and welcome to the forum :) I'm sure someone who has the same problem as you will be along shortly. It might not be because of diabetes that you get this - my husband always falls asleep after lunch and he isn't diabetic.

Thanks for the link to the previous thread however I don't think it's a carb thing because I still get increadibly heavy eyes after a carbLESS lunch!
I know I should have some carbs with every meal but I've been trying to figure out what causes this tiredness every afternoon and have cut carbs from occassional lunches to see if that is the cause. It doesn't seem to be :(

It's not unusual to feel this way after eating food, however I would strongly suggest that you see your gp and ask for blood tests to rule out any deficiency.

I get it too - always have. I think we may be designed to have a little snooze after our midday meal. Isn't that when some people's body clocks dip naturally?

I think so too. The Spanish had it right all along.

I remember hearing about a study where they put people into a sealed environment, with no clocks, no windows and no access to anything that would tell them the time. After a few days they settled into a pattern of sleeping during the night and after lunch.

Its called POWER NAPPING now
