Since my binge episode a few weeks ago, my bloods are doing something weird.

I have been back on the wagon since, but often my pre meal blood sugars are around 8-9 and my post (low carb) meals, after 2 hours, are around 6-7.

any ideas on what is going on, and how to lower my pre-meal figures please?

Are you doing any activities in the time leading up to your pre-meal test (housework etc) and are your hands clean and dry? One of my sins is when preparing my food I tend to kitchen pick a bit, or lick the spoons or whatever. This doesn't help!

Are your pre-meal levels higher than the post meal ones for your previous meal, and what sort of time gap is there?

I am doing my normal 3-4 hours of work and housework between meals - that hasnt changed.

I always wash my hands in soap and water pre-testing

Yes, a typical day now is:

getting up: 8-9
post hot milk (breakfast): 6-7

pre-lunch: 8-9
post low carb lunch/snack: 6-7

pre teatime: 8-10
post meal time-5-7

bedtime around 9

its weird and been happening for about 3 weeks. I have at least 5 hours between meals and nothing after 7pm until around 10am the next day.

It does seem odd. I wonder if it is the housework causing it? I know it does with me.
They have to be liver dumps. I can't see what else they could be, and these will occur during exercise but then stop when you eat, and then the exercise works to reduce the levels during the time before you do the post meal test. Does this sound reasonable?

Can you try a lazy day, or a lazy afternoon doing nothing, and see what happens?

Liver dumps of that size are mainly due to insulin resistance, and when you were bingeing, your IR most likely took a turn for the worse.

Thats a good point. Perhaps my body is doing that thing (cant remember the name) where it gets used to a certain level and thinks going below it means I am having a false hypo and dumps on me? Like when we first stat low carbing?

the warmer weather has increased my activity capacity too, thinking about it.

Same with me, if I do housework then test my BG is always higher. It is not very high these days, on the low carb but still higher than it would normally be after doing housework

Try eating a lump of cheese and a dessert spoon of full-fat cream. This seems to help me

I don't know about the false hypo bit, but in many people exercise increases BS levels, especially during and a while afterwards, then the levels drop. It doesn't seem to matter what the pre-exercise levels were. In my case, I have to restrict housework to the afternoons as it has less effect then. In a morning it can raise me from mid 5's to mid 6's. Treat yourself to a nice lazy day and test regularly.

When I was struggling with my fluctuating blood levels, my endocrinologist suggested a fifteen minute walk after a meal.
This worked for me as I was having at that time food every three hours.
The benefits are many, light exercise does agree with stabilising blood levels.
I also think that leaving five hours between meals can be too long and your body is reacting to it. I have read that some T2s cannot fast because of the bodies reaction to fasting. Eat something small a few bites like the suggested cheese as a small snack.

I have also read that strenuous exercise will cause blood glucose levels to rise.

Best wishes

My pet theory at the moment is that if you go off the wagon for a bit it builds up your glucose store and your liver dumps on you at any opportunity.

I've already posted far too much about my 9.6-9.8 readings, but I've cleared those by going very low calorie for a few days. The first couple of days my BG was still up but by day 3 levels had come right down.

So you may just have to eat minimally for 2-3 days to purge the glucose stores out of your system.

Then again, no guarantee that you react the same way as me.
