Hi all, I was put on metformin last year and suffer from reflux with it, stopped drinking lager as it made it worse and started drinking bitter with a bit of lemonade in it, would the lemonade up my blood count ? its still creeping up and i got a telling off this morning, the lemonade is from a post mix syrup... been searching but cannot find sugar content on this stuff.
Thanks in advance and sorry if its a silly question.

If you cannot determine that it's sugar free then it's safer to assume that it isn't. Just the word 'syrup' makes me suspicious. The only soft drink I use now is Pepsi Max.

The process of making beer, is to break down the ingredients into a sugar based 'syrup'. Fermintation is the name it goes by. It will spike you unless you are very very lucky.
Beer is full of carbs, a big no, no for diabetics, regardless of what it is mixed with!

I have never found a diet lemonade in a pub.
Assume it's full sugar
Ironically the more bitter real ale had the best effect on me, as most of the sugar is fermented out.
Avoid sweet tasting ones, as occasionally sugar is added for the flavour after the fermentation has stopped.
Lower strength ones weren't as good, and high strength double brewed were really bad.

If you can drink lager, Coors Light can be a good choice.
For someone who is carb intolerant anything fermented or a chemical process that most lagers are, will be full of sugars and carbs.
You can tolerate lager but I suspect most will see a spike that they shouldn't be having on a regular basis

I sure the op is sensible enough to know the risks, particularly as he asked the question about it, and will know which way his BG goes when he drinks it.

I only drink john smiths smooth and sometimes only a couple after work, its a weak ale, i will cut out the pub lemonade from now and use my own.
