Pre diabetes blood sugar taking over 4 hours to come down after eating

Hi
I am pre diabetic and decided to get a Dexcom for a month to try and understand my blood glucose a little better. I am a visual. Learner so this method works best for me. I am finding that after meals my bg levels spike to anywhere between 12 and 14 mmol, but then can take over 4 hours to come back down to about seven. I ate at 6.30 tonight and my bg is still 9.5 now and isn’t seeming to shift. Is that a normal curve for pre diabetic?
Thanks to any answers
Donna

Whatever you ate to cause that spike had far too many carbs for you to process.
Someone who has no problem dealing with carbs will usually see their blood sugar return to pre meal level within 2hrs.
So that is what we aim for, we give ourselves a 2mmol limit, in other words if our blood sugar is within 2mmol of our pre meal level, then that meal was OK.
If we are more than 2mmol above at 2hrs then there were too many carbs for our bodies to handle.
To be blunt, you won't be pre diabetic for long if that's a typical meal, you will soon progress to full T2.
Have a look at the link below this post for the Nutritional thingy

Just one small caveat @Naelith . Did you check the dexcom against a normal glucometer at all? Although the shape of the graph is likely to be correct, there is a possibility that readings may be consistently off by a couple of mmol/L.

But I'm afraid I agree with @catinahat , reducing the carbs in your diet to make the rise after 2 hours less than 2mmol/L is a good plan....

Thanks for replying, I did check with a finger prick and that was 8.6 so a slight difference. I had about 85g of carbs although I had just been looking at the sugar content of food so now I know to look out for carbs I will have a look at that. How many carbs would be good for a meal? Or is it individual and just adjust it for me until I come within the 2 mmol within two hours?
