Pre diabetic??

Hi
I am a 37 year old female, within healthy BMI and I exercise for an hour a day 5 days a week, doing intense cardio training.
My dad has type 2 diabetes and is insulin dependant, also all his his siblings and his mum are all type 2 insulin dependant.
I have been testing my blood sugar for a week now, fasting and 2 hrs after eating and my ranges are as follows.....fasting 6.3-6.5 and after eating 7.4-8.1 although had one reading as high as 10.3!
Would I be classed as pre diabetic and if so what can I do about it??.. I eat fairly healthy, use brown pasta, rice etc and eat whole grain bread with the seeds etc. I do have the odd treat, had a small fairy cake my son had made when my sugar went up to 10.3, but wouldn't say I eat badly!
Any advice would be really gratefully received.

Many thanks claire

Yes, I would go out on a limb and say those readings are prediabetic.
In fact, why not go to your doctor and ask for a Glucose Tolerance Test to set your mind at ease?
Your diet sounds perfectly healthy for a non-diabetic person, although, of course a diabetic is someone who has difficulty dealing with carbs in any form, whether brown, white or wholemeal.

Yes, your readings indicate you should go to the doc and have GTT or HBa1C test. Your diet appears good, but if you are genetically pre-disposed to become diabetic that won't stop you; but it will help reduce the impact. BTW, we all have treats occasionally. I pigged-out on Mother's Day and went up to 22.6; not something I would recommend!
