Hi
@Catmad14 and welcome to the forum.
If you take action, with any luck your pre-diabetes won't get any worse.
I don't know the details of what this 'NHS nine month programme', but apart from Drugs and Bariatric Surgery there are 3 main methods for controlling full diabetes (or putting it into remission). Which can all be tweaked to a certain amount by exercise:
1. An 8 to 1 week crash diet which may be either Shakes based or real food based, followed by adjusting to a weight maintenance way of eating.
Names for this include Newcastle Diet or FAST800. Note that the short term success rate is around 40% but that drops off quickly as time goes on.
2. A fasting method which appears to have worked for severely obese patients. This can be compared with Bariatric Surgery.
3. A Low Carbohydrate way of eating. This needs no calorie restriction or starvation. In fact, many people report success while at least feeling like they are eating more calories than before. It has a good success rate and is probably the most popular method used on this forum. This is the method I used and I have taken no diabetes medications, no extra exercise and have had normal (non-diabetic) Blood Glucose levels for over 4yrs.
But everybody is different, so I encourage you to do some reading in our forums and decide what is the best fit in your case.
