I asked for a blood test last month for cholesterol, alongside which my blood sugar was checked and a result of pre-diabetes came back. I went through 48 hours of I don't want to give up what I enjoy, to half being too scared to eat. Luckily I'm past that now, have been doing my research and trying to make tweaks. Have joined the NHS nine month programme, the first session didn't tell me anything didn't know/haven't found out since, but the app is interesting for mini challenges I can try and incorporate and resources I check out until something more relevant comes up for me on the course (thinking it could be more of a sleep problem for me). Will definitely stick to the course as I want to make a difference.

Hi @Catmad14 and welcome to the forum.

If you take action, with any luck your pre-diabetes won't get any worse.
I don't know the details of what this 'NHS nine month programme', but apart from Drugs and Bariatric Surgery there are 3 main methods for controlling full diabetes (or putting it into remission). Which can all be tweaked to a certain amount by exercise:

1. An 8 to 1 week crash diet which may be either Shakes based or real food based, followed by adjusting to a weight maintenance way of eating.
Names for this include Newcastle Diet or FAST800. Note that the short term success rate is around 40% but that drops off quickly as time goes on.

2. A fasting method which appears to have worked for severely obese patients. This can be compared with Bariatric Surgery.

3. A Low Carbohydrate way of eating. This needs no calorie restriction or starvation. In fact, many people report success while at least feeling like they are eating more calories than before. It has a good success rate and is probably the most popular method used on this forum. This is the method I used and I have taken no diabetes medications, no extra exercise and have had normal (non-diabetic) Blood Glucose levels for over 4yrs.

But everybody is different, so I encourage you to do some reading in our forums and decide what is the best fit in your case.

Hi and welcome @Catmad14 . I’m cat mad too. We have a sphinx and she rules our entire household. We live only to serve her!
Cats aside, this is a great site with so much information and numerous discussion groups relating to all forms of diabetes. Feel free to peruse the sub forums and please don’t hesitate to ask questions.

Thanks for your welcome.

The programme I'm on is designed to increase knowledge about diabetes and different tools to tackle it in terms of diet, activity, sleep and stress, discussion and supporting each other with whichever way we all chose to make adjustments. Will obviously be following on here and probably be asking questions along the way as well.

I'm not overweight, bmi 18.6, but I'm chosing less sugary options (time will tell if I need to cut out more) and having less carbs. Eating more nuts and greek yogurt with things like fruit. Am fairly active anyway, but I've taken up tai chi again, will try to do extra walks and try a different exercise class.

@Melgar - I have two of the little monkeys who keep me in check!
