Prediabetes
Hi I'm Dawn female and 53. Last week my doctor diagnosed me as Prediabetic my count being 44 and suggesting I need to change my lifestyle. My concern is my job. I stay in hotels 3 nights pw. Whilst I realise when I'm at home I can sort my diet and exercise I feel I may struggle with hotel food. I drive a fair number of hours per day feeling very tired when i finish work therefore limiting my ability to exercise. Are there any suggestions? Thanks

Hi I've also recently had blood tests that put me in the prediabetic range. I've. been adapting my diet the last few weeks and eating out can be a nightmare although I'm starting to learn little things! It depends where you stay and whether you must eat in the hotel you stay (expenses etc?...maybe work would pay for you to eat elsewhere if you explain?). So far when I've been out I've opted for chicken/fish dishes with veg/salad...ask for veg/salad instead of chips etc. Best and healthiest meal I've had since changing how I'm eating and I wouldn't have thought it was in Wetherspoons and they tend to be in most places now but again depends whereabouts you're staying...I had chicken bacon and avocado salad minus the balsamic dressing....it was really nice and filling.

For exercise....maybe yoga/Pilates etc in your hotel room using YouTube videos etc if you have a smartphone or tablet. I exercise in a morning now but when I did a different job I used to exercise after work and it was a battle against my tiredness...but I used to make myself go because I always felt better afterwards...even just a walk especially with the lighter nights coming up, it really does make a difference.

I came on here a few weeks back for advice and there's lots of it so stay on here for advice and so you don't feel alone. I'm about to post a summary of how I've got on in the last few weeks if you want to see what I've done to make changes.

Good luck

You'll get the hang of it don't worry - my hubby non diabetic but low carb is away mon to fri in hotels and he does fine - it's about being inventive steak & salad, fish vegetables burgers without the bun - sometimes starters are lower carbs than mains so he had 2 starters sometimes even 3 instead of a main. Roast meats & carveries. Last night he had 2 starters of chicken and avacado salad and a cheese plate without the biscuits. The night before he had a sharing plate to himself of antipasto.

Breakfast either a cooked brekkie or if they have a good continental he has cold meats, cheese and egg

You'll get there it's early days and you will make mistakes - the key is testing to see what food does to your bs you will have some nasty shocks but also some lovely surprises of what you can eat:)
