Basically as the title says.

How do you know the difference between preeclampsia swelling and normal pregnancy swelling?
My feet and legs are swollen and are tingly and feel bruised and my hands and fingers are the same. Really struggling to stand because it's uncomfortable.
I had my bp and urine tested the other day and both of those came back as normal.

Thanks in advance x

If you are unsure then please be on the safe side and telephone your Dr, Preeclampsia is not to be messed with.

Swelling is very common in pregnancy, but I would give your midwife a ring just so you can be checked out.

Thank you. I'll keep my feet elevated tonight and ring her first thing in the morning.

X

I had preeclampsia, a lifetime ago, but it started with high blood pressure and I was told to rest and lie down as much as possible, but the BP didn't go down and just kept going up, then the swelling started. Mine was most significant on my belly - I had a very soft squelchy layer on top of the underside of my belly. It was significant and quite clearly unusual.

But the BP is the significant factor - are you able to get that checked soon - as the swellling is related to the hypertension - so if you have any concerns you must get it checked. Even if you can't get to your midwife, a practice nurse should be able to do it for you at the GPs.

Thank you, I had it done on Tuesday and am having it done again on Wednesday.
I don't have swelling anywhere else just the hands and feet so I think it's nothing to worry about.
Will still make enquiries tomorrow. Better to be safe than sorry :)

Hi I had pre eclampsia with my first pregnancy (she is now 2) -my face swelled up too and my blood sugars started dropping. Had v v high blood pressure.
For my twins ( now 5m) I went to the docs to get checked out every week towards the end and the midwife would also check.
Have you got headaches as that's another sign.
They would rather you go in and get checked out than leave it xx

I would guess that if it was fine a couple of days ago, it's probably normal pregnancy swelling. My BP was very high all through the pregnancy and just kept climbing. If they're monitoring your BP regularly, it's not going to go unnoticed - which is exactly why they do it. But please follow it up tomorrow if you're concerned.

That's what I thought, it hasn't been long since it was checked and I'm having weekly appointments so I don't think it'll be missed. It just came on quickly.
No headaches or anything else just swelling. Xx

My husband has just come in and reminded me that my face and arms were very swollen too - I remembered the belly best as it felt very odd. Hopefully you'll soon have it confirmed that all is well.

That's reassuring, it's mainly my feet and legs and a little bit on the hands and fingers. Nothing on the arms or face :)
Will be keeping a very close eye on it!

Thank you for your help xx
