Hi,

So i am trying to get my sugars under control so we can start a family. Currently my HBa1C is around 8.4 which is obviously no where near good enough to start a family.
I have stopped drinking alcohol and have had the Freestyle libre for around a month now. My sugars do not seems to have any pattern to them. I have spoken to the diabetes nurses who have said they can't seem to see any patterns in my sugars so i need to think about trying to make my carb intake more consistent. I pretty much eat the same for lunch everyday and breakfast and i'm still having high blood sugars.
I was just looking for someone who has been in the same position and can offer any advice.

Thanks, Samantha

Hi Diakat,

Yes i am trying to sort these at the moment but i don't really get how that will sort it, every day is different for my sugars, for example a couple of weeks ago i had a couple of days which were brilliant, i don't think i went above 7 for 2 days, nothing was different on these days apart from i felt a bit ill, i still ate the same and did the same activities that i do everyday.

So if i got my basal/ ratios right i don't know how long it will last before i'm back to looking at them again. I just feel a bit deflated at the moment, got a whole list of things to do (given to me by hospital) before i can think about having a baby:
# Stop drinking alcohol- Done
# Lose 2 stone- in progress
# Stop vaping- In progress
# Reduce anti-depressants- gone from 30mg to 20mg and looking to reduce again in a few weeks
# Get Hba1c in check- Struggling with

I was looking for hopefully somebody who was in the same boat to see how they managed it, I want a success story! Lol!

Thanks for your reply x x

@SJH1986 it sounds like you have made a great start.
No one is perfect and neither is our diabetes management. Getting the basal right should make things easier and may help avoid hypos so aiding weight loss.
It is good to hear that your team are supportive.
Lots of testing will help you head off highs with small corrections. Good luck with everything.
