Hi MandyH, and welcome!

I have no personal experience of diabetes and pregnancy, so I'm afraid I can't help there, but have a good read round on the forum - it's a subject often discussed. Someone will probably be along to help in due course.

What caught my eye in your post was this:

last week at g.p they refused to remove my coil untill i saw the gyni team.

If you want that coil out they should do it for you. It's your body. As far as I'm concerned, my motives for having a coil removed should be no-one's business but mine (and possibly my partner's  ). There are lots of reasons for having a coil removed other than wanting to get pregnant, and lots of alternative methods of contraception should you happen to need them! Be polite, but don't let them push you around.

Best of luck. Let us know how you get on.

I agree with Viv 100% here. If you want that coil removed, then they are obliged to remove it. Well done you for going to a Gynie appointment too but this is your body, not thiers.

Hi Mandy,

I hope I can help a little bit...

Asides from the usual advice given to non-diabetic mums-to-be, it is vital to have a healthy HbA1C (below 7.0) at the time of conception and of course throughout pregnancy. Begin taking 5mg of folic acid a day as soon as you start trying for a baby, continue to take this daily throughout pregnancy. You can only get this on prescription.

As I'm sure you found with your gestational diabetes, you'll be monitored very closely with numerous appointments and scans so you'll have lots of opportunities to ask questions along the way!

There are quite a few posts on here under the GD section which discuss pregnancy (including pregnancy with T1), fluctuating blood sugars etc etc which might give you an idea of what to expect. Basically read as much as you can now - be prepared!

Good luck and best wishes.
