I obtained a print out of my previous blood work and one measurement stood out in July 2012, a fasting reading of 5.8. Considering that a figures are between 4 and 6 for a non-diabetic and my July 2004 reading was 4.9, should I not have been warned I was getting close to pre-diabetic? I react really well to information but nothing was said, has anyone else had such an experience?

I wouldn't give it a moment's thought, except to dismiss it under the what's past is past category.

As far as i am aware, there is no pre-pre-diabetic classification, and the alarms at my surgery don't go off unless your fasting is over 7mmol/l

The only interest they showed back when I was inching up through pre-d was to give me a diet sheet pushing 9 portions of carbs/day, and promise me annual glucose tolerance tests while actually delivering them every 3rd or 4th year. I don't think you missed out on much.

You were lucky that your doctor had that much information. Mine had nothing. No record of any immunisations or treatment either as a child or as an adult. I was shocked and I did insist at my next interview with the GP that the records should be written up from my analogue file.

Thanks @Brunneria and @Phoenix55. I will put this behind me and count my blessings. I do find it scary that trends are not being flagged and that record keeping is not up to scratch for some.

The term "pre-diabetes" is newish and is not an illness, condition, disease, or similar. It is non-diabetic but a little higher than most. At 5.8 you were well within the non-diabetic range. I doubt any surgery in the country would have warned you.

Thanks, appreciated.
