Problem with Diabetic ulcer healing

T1 husband has had a few of these and has a nasty one now. Eventually, the nurses turn to Manuka honey dressings and the thing heals. His current one is infected and they want it clear before they let it heal over.
I recently read an article which said th regular debridement is important. [for those who don't know, that means shaving off the dead tissue] Pressure badaging is good if the circulation is adequate for it

I hope you husband does well. It#s pretty much the same with me except that in my case the Manuka Honey dressing did not work. Other than that the treatment all is familiar
 
alandbailey - are you still checking your blood sugar levels periodically?

it could be that you appear to be cured, but the diabetes has returned.
 
lucylocket - due to being monitored for osteomyelitis and post-bariatric surgery my bloods are tested every 6-8 weeks. There is no sign of diabetes and my GP, diabetic, bariatric and other consultants agree that I am cured. The DVLA has reinstated my full driving licence.
A year after the amputation of my ulcerated toes, I have been pronounced clear of any residual infections. :)

After nearly a year of various treatments and monitoring sugar levels in single figures the ankle is not really any better. The latest treatment has been a snap dressing which sucks exudate slowly from the wound - seems effective at what it does though a little painful. The overall surface of the wound is greater but it is less deep and cleaner looking tomorrow I am meeting with the plastic surgery department but if they have nothing to offer I am reaching the end of likely short term solutions - my district nurse tells me that she has known them take years to heal fully (most cheering!). I still don't believe that from a mark so small you could hardly see it with the naked eye, and getting it treated regularly from the very beginning, that it has come to where it is now. I have had dopler tests and a scan of my arteries neither show any cause for something this bad. :cry:
