yet i never get an appointment, i have tried calling but no one ever picks up,.
i even more concerned now i have retinal bleeding
can anyone offer some advice ??

Is the referral to the diabetes clinic as well as podiatry ?

It may be worth telling your GP that you haven't yet received an appointment so they can chase it up. Hospitals can be a little slow at processing clinic requests sometimes

I'm having a different problem with a hospital and it is simply that they are five months behind with letter writing.
Five months!
I asked my doctor about it and she said ... welcome to NHS cutbacks.
Welcome to austerity politics.
Seriously ... that was her answer.

I'm sure I've read on the forum that you can self-refer to Podiatry, as for your eyes and your concerns of a bleed, if you've not been seen your Dr yet then I would get your eyes checked, if they have already referred you over to the hospital and your still waiting for an appointment, I suggest you ring the Ophthalmology clinic up and chase the appointment up, if you tell them that you suspect that you've has a bleed then they will get you in sooner.

CCG's are starting to change regarding podiatry... Well ours certainly is.
Ours used to be self referring, but now diabetic feet are low priority and the stance being taken by many CCG's now is.. Unless you are a top priority- you will have to pay yourself to see a podiatrist....

Same here ... no podiatry for diabetics any longer.

We can self refer - anyone that is, not just diabetics. We pick up a form from the surgery, fill it in and send it off. They then prioritise and then give you an appointment. My husband isn't diabetic but wanted to go because of a corn on his foot. I have no foot problems but am diabetic. We both completed the forms etc. and both got an appointment on the same day, about 5 weeks later.

How long ago was this. Ours has changed in last few weeks....

Nothing was said to us either. I found out from a Healthwatch person doing a presentation at our PPG Meeting. Looked it up for our CCG and sure enough there was a consultation paper last year and it was brought in I think on 1st Sept 2014. Nobody said anything...may be worthwhile people googling their CCG and diabetes and podiatry services as a search criteria.

I know it's not happening everywhere, but I can see it happening more and more.
