Protein in urine

I'm a type 2 diabetic and have just been told I have protein in my urine for the second time in 2 months. The first time I was 38 weeks pregnant so I assumed a small amount of protein was normal, but my baby is now 5 weeks old and the protein is still there. My test results say my protein level is <5, my creatine level is 68 with reference of 37.0-91.0 and my GFR is > 60. I've been having some mild pains in my back kidney area, but my doctor says he is not concerned about the protein because all the other numbers would be high if I had kidney problems. Is this true? And are the other numbers ok? I thought GFR was supposed to be 90?

yes I think he si right, I have been very ill more times for many months living only from glucose into my veins and saltwater of cause I did have some cases of protein i my urine but it all times did disapeared again and no kidney problems at all so if you feel well and they keep an eye on you then it will most likely disapear again ..
but this pain in your back area should also soon disapear , otherwise ask for an expert view, on the other hand giving birth is a very hard exercise , and having some body reactions is also very common

Hi @Angela1090 - I just noticed that @himtoo had tagged me. I have had all kinds of problems with internet access recently and haven't been able to get on the site till now. I had a kidney transplant nearly 3 years ago which was needed due to an inherited renal disease. I attended clinics regularly for decades before my function dropped to the critical stage..and so I am very used to all the associated blood tests and their significance. Bottom line is that a creatinine level of 68 is perfectly normal...in fact it's pretty good. As for the eGFR...anything around 60 and above is within the normal range. You would be surprised how many people have less than 90 (this includes 4 of my renal doctors) and to give you a idea of what low function is...my single transplanted kidney functions well at around 45 (my creatinine hovers around 150...60-120 being normal range). Unless there were problems with your creatinine and eGFR (and there are not), your doctor will not be concerned about relatively low protein-urine levels in relation to kidney issues. Don't worry..i'm sure thing will clear up directly and your renal tests will demonstrate very little, if any, change next time.
