Protein shakes

I've just started back at work on a phased return after 12 months on the sick due to diabetic problems, also I had 5 months on furlough afterwards so a total of 18 months off work, after the shielding period I've suffered a lot of decondishoning of my legs, I'm just wondering can I have protein /whey shakes to help build up some muscle in my legs again, my job entails being on my feet for 10 hours a day.
Thanks all.

Are you T2? If so you should test how you react to whey, a slower burning alternative is casein protein. If you don’t have any issues, I.e. kidney issues, adding some protein should be beneficial. Prefer from food, but shakes are fine for convenience

You can get better quality protein from beef, pork, chicken, fish. Shakes are ok if you are out of time, just read the label, a lot of them can be filled with rubbish.

I use protein shakes straight after training without fail and the carbs are typically 2-3g for a 30g scoop.

With a make up of half semi-skimmed milk, half water it comes up to 5-7g and not too much of a spike for me
- I use The Protein Works Whey 360 protein powders in the main but have been trying out the Vegan protein for an article which comes to 6g with a half milk, half water solution.

I will look to see if they have a casein equivalent but my understanding is that is better taken late at night.
