This is an apt presentation for me at the moment.

is there some way to shorten this very turgid jargon filled lecture for professionals into something a simple person like myself could understand?

Basically, that the Australian dietary guidelines re protein are wrong because the parameters are too wide and that they were based on young healthy men so no guidelines at all for women, children or the elderly.
He explains why too much protein is harmful and then goes on to say that in his opinion a figure of between 1g and 3g per LBM is optimal.

Not the clearest presentation I have ever seen, a tad hard to follow at times but one of only a very few that deals with protein in its entirety.

OK.
Protein.... for me isn't harmful. My kidneys are very very healthy.
Now this may be due to my thyroid health and that I'm a woman before menopause. After menopause women have same risks as men. Until then, less.
Proteins look after muscle and tendon health.
I lost weight mainly from my muscles on low carb medium/low fat. Alot of protein was eaten but if nuts, cheese or cream I didn't lose weight.
Chicken in abundance and eggs did the trick. It protected my muscles but I lost 4st but have readded some now on more carbs. (due to financial restraints)

Maybe we should start a thread on inexpensive recipes appropriate for diabetics. Here is one cheapo recipe. It assumes that folks can either get dried vegetables or are drying their own on paper towels or in cheap dehydrators or on racks in a convection oven

Ingredients: 1 one pound can of wild Alaskan Salmon, about $3. This is packed in its own cooking brine sometimes right on shipboard so it is safe and not too salty. About a third to a half cup of dried vegetable pieces (think carrots, onions, celery, maybe a teaspoon of either dill or parsley. One egg.

Pour everything in the can into a mixing bowl and mash it. Beat the egg and mix it in. Add half the vegetables and mix them around until not so juicy. Let sit until veggies rehydrate some and then more vegetables until you can form the mass into patties. But let sit again until the mix is rehydrated before actually making the patties. Coat outside with some kind of oil. Bake in oven. When one side seem done, turn over.

This also works in microwaves.
Thank you @Contralto :)
