I want to change clinics - presently at Barnet Hospital part of Royal Free Hospital (Hampstead) - but getting no where with access to pump therapy,

Which clinic would you recommend in London and why?

Looking forward to your recommendations.

Hi Catherine
welcome to the forum :)
I can't help specifically on choice of hospital but I can highly recommend you getting in touch with INPUT
here is a link to their website http://www.inputdiabetes.org.uk/

they are an amazing advocacy group for access to technology for type 1 diabetics. If you get in touch with them they should be able to offer some support.

all the best

hey Cath !!:)
a huge welcome from me to the forum !!
perhaps your view may not be so positive after attending the event which I think was much more general rather than the guidance you were hoping for.
I would suggest contacting them direct on their website with an email ( ask for melissa or lesley in your message )
I have been in communication with them a number of times since the manchester meet.

another avenue towards info on getting towards pumping might be to meet up with the great group of T1's in London

tagging @ewelina to assist in welcoming you to the meet ups !! she's fab !!
@tim2000s is a huge asset on pumping and attends these meet ups. --he is one of the most clued up people I know !!

all the best !!

Most of the hospitals around London have pump trained dsn and consultants but CCG funding is another issue no matter what, even with the nice criteria. Usually there is a lengthy wait involved for the funding to be generated and a roll of barbed wire to navigate through as well in some areas.

Thanks @himtoo. @cath67plum , the comments from @iHs are pretty much spot on. I've been told that the Royal Free is pretty good on pump grounds, so I can't imagine that it will be any easier with the other hospitals. I'd suggest going through the INPUT information and identifying the areas where the ACBD directions would assist you, then putting together a case for a pump.

You are likely to have to fight hard to get what you want. It's not a straightforward request if your Hba1C levels are already good, but it is possible.

Thanks Tim2000s - I've been on a waiting list for 3 years and no progress is being made. I'm frustrated as it's my quality of life that is affected! I have been in touch with INPUT and taking the steps they advised.

Newham is excellent with diabetes care!! Get yourself there...it's the biggest diabetes clinic etc in Europe (apparently)! The waiting times for appointments etc are very short as well! Definitely look into this as I have finally received the best diabetes care I've ever had this past year since being Diabetic for 8 years!

Good luck
