Hi all!

Just after some opinions of I could - I have chosen to go on the insight pump after getting approved at the clinic. Literally cannot wait!

I made that choice after a lot of going back and forward between the insight and 640g.

Anyway, I am going to the clinic on May 5th to get my initial training and to pick up the pump. They have given me the choice of going live straight away, or having it for a week first to play around with it. Would would you all recommend?

I am guessing that due to the self fill cartridges not being available, it won't be possible to use saline, so will it be a bit pointless not having it all set up to try?

I am thinking that I may as well go straight on insulin, but as I'm a new pumper would this be a bit premature? I have read about a third of the pumping insulin book after seeing so many recommendations on here which I am sure will help, plus of course the support of my dsn and you lovely people.

Thanks everyone, and happy Friday!!

Mark

I got my insight last friday. For the first three days I had a cartridge filled with air. I wore two cannulas I with the Teflon inside me so that I could get used to the feel of it and the other was just stuck onto my tummy. This is the one that I attached the tubing onto so that I could press buttons and get used to operating the pump without having to fill myself with air! Lol. Even though I was excited and keen to get pumping I am glad I was patient as it gave me the opportunity to compile a list of questions for my dsn.

Great news Pudgem, really hope it all goes well :)

I went straight onto insulin using the Omnipod pump and never got the choice of using saline for a few days before, not that I wanted to.

I just went straight on it. I was told initially that I would have it hooked up with just saline, but then when I got my actual appointment date, I was told I would be going straight on it, so I just went with the flow. It's been 4 days, and after an initial blip on the first day, it has been absolutely fine. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess I will have to have a think about it. I do like the idea of being able to try out some of the bolus options and settings without ending up in a&e, so perhaps I will try it for a few days first.

I was wondering how they got around the self inflating with air! Lol

How are you both finding the insight? Simple enough to use, and user friendly?

I am so excited!!

Straight on to pump. Took hubby and friend to my training as back up..
However 4.5 years ago pumps were less and I was in a bad situation and never really knew what a pump was!! I did know carbcounting and dose adjustment even though I've never had a DAFNE course.
I knew next to nothing about a pump and went straight on it live. Had amazing help from someone special on this forum though... So I was very lucky.

I'm just taking small steps with mine. I'm not playing around with any of the bolus features just yet. I'm just going at the pace of the training and just getting use to having it on me, getting used to the new ratios (although I have adjusted them to suit me better) and maintaining my diary, etc. I'm also not going to basal test just yet either. Just taking it nice and easy.

Four days on it and four days without a hypo! Unheard of in my world

That's the way......paddle in the shallow end first before venturing in deeper water. At the moment, weather temps are not really that stable ?.warm one day, cooler the next etc. Come May...weather temp should be stable, so basal test then and with any luck, the basals wont need to change that much....only tweaked
