Pump Insurance

I remember soemwhere reading that there is a specialist pump insurer, but I can't find the details on Input's site.

I want to compare the price of standalone insurance vs doing through my home contents policy
Can anyone provide a link?
 
It's expensive from that company and also an ins broker who read the small print said it wasn't worth the paper it was written on. So do make sure you do your research.
 
Do you know why he said this CarbsRok? I am with this company and everything looks pretty straightforward in there and they have a good website. It's total peace of mind for me as they replace next day with a new like for like pump.

I can't remember all the reasons as to why not, it was quite awhile ago the discussion took place. My household ins is only about £17 a year for the pump ins.
 
Can I ask, is there anybody that has ever had to make a claim?i think the insurers have got a good income from pump insurance.. We all know that we need it, so we look after it...
I would think its less than 1% that have ever claimed....
 
I've looked into this in more depth and it appears to be already covered through my house insurance, all risks as a personal posessionm which has a single article value limit of £5000. Yes there's an excess on that, but to be honest I'm thinking that the likelihood is so low that I'm probably going to go down that route.

I had a chat with them today and spoke to one of the claims folks who said it would probabaly go to one of their specialist claims advisers and due to the nature of it, if I lodge a letter defining my responsibility and the value of the pump they should turn it around inside 24 hours.

So worth talking to your current contents insurer. Mine is John Lewis by the way.
 
Dave, glad that John Lewis will cover it.

I was with Legal and General, I spoke to them and they told me they would not cover medical equipment and that they had a policy that they would not allow customers to have more than one contents type insurance. Then without telling me they cancelled my insurance as they'd assumed I would go elsewhere for my pump, it was a month before they sent me a letter telling me it was cancelled, so I had a month with no home insurance.

In the mean time I had contacted http://insurance4insulinpumps.co.uk and arranged pump cover.

Now I have separate insurance for my house contents through M&S who were also happy to allow customers to have more than one provider of contents type insurance.

Still haven't heard of any persons claiming yet.. That will be the proof in the pudding. Must make sure I look at John Lewis insurance this year..

This may be the case but in the UK the hospital provider insists that you have insurance cover, in my case I had to sign for my pump and part of the declaration was that I had indeed taken out insurance and would continue with the cover for the next 4 years or until the pump was returned.

I don't understand the point your making regarding insurance as we have very few options and if no one has claimed then we have no proof that any of the insurances taken out have valid cover ?, but our providers insist we take out insurance, so what are you suggesting we do ?
 
I agree as we all have to sign, but as a fairness of insurance companies their risk factors should be on a fair assessment and judgement.

If nobody claims, legimaty they should lower costs to the consumers according to the financial guidelines.
 
Covered mine on my contents insurance, £20 per year additional cost, just emailed the letter from the hospital confirming the cost of a replacement.

Interestingly, they didn't have a pre-defined entry on their database for an insulin pump, despite them telling me they had covered other people with one. After I spoke to them, they called back and said they had added this as an option, and it was specified clearly on my updated policy schedule.

Of course, I hope I never have to claim.

Mine was similar cost last year. But insurance companies should review claimants and risk factors for structuring their risk factors.... And adjust costs..the separate insulinpump insurance is still extortion...
 
Does your house insurance cover you if your pump is lost/stolen or whatever while you're away on holiday?
