Pump Upgrade

Morning all. I just want to share my news, the cat wasn’t interested!

After 6 years on the Insight pump (and testing my BG by finger pricking) I have just been told I can have the pump of my choice which is Ypsomed and Dexacom G6.

The only pumps on offer at my hospital were Omnipod, Tslim or Medtronic. All of which I’d researched thoroughly, and I wasn’t convinced. But my DSN has accommodated my wish.

The reason I wanted Ypsomed is because it uses pump carts like the insight, which I love.

I’m starting Dexacom G6 next week and hope to start Ypsomed as soon as possible !

I’d love to hear of anyone using Ypsomed, I know is not commonly used here in the U.K., and I also know there are some problems with iPhone users….

I feel like a dinosaur as I’m still finger pricking and I feel most pump users have libre or Dexacom…. I am so excited to start CGM

I am using a CGM AND finger pricking.
It is important to remember that a CGM does not replace all finger pricks.
For those of us with Type 1, I believe the value of a CGM is not reducing finger pricks (although it dies). The value of a CGM is seeing what happens between finger pricks.

Well done you for getting the Ypsomed pump! I ended up with a T:Slim pump, and find having to fill the plastic ‘cartridges’ a real faff, especially since I have difficulty gripping items with my fingers.

The only phone issues I'm aware of is if your looping. The T:Slim does not need phone loop management and its included with the pump. The Ypsomed only loops via the Cambridge software on an Andriod only phone, plus it costs an extra £840/yr to have this.

just an update. I now have my trial of Dexcom in preparation for upgrading to Ypsomed.

I’m an iPhone user but I’m investing in an android to use exclusively for my diabetes, which will loop to the software in question. (I don’t pay for any of this.)

Yesterday during my Dexcom start up with the rep and other type 1 CGM users, I mentioned your above comment.

Thankfully, this is incorrect. Everyone was well controlled with excellent HBA1C and all confirmed they do finger prick tests maximum a dozen times a year.

The Dexcom rep including the specialist pump nurses confirmed this too.

I use a Dexcom G6 with an insulin pump. Every so often Dexcom asks for calibration. That is when I need to finger-prick to perform the calibrations. In my case approximately once a day. Perhaps Ypsomed/Dexcom G6 combination works differently.

Hi @Picci , this is really good news - I'm glad the Cambridge Loop trial is still ongoing for selected hospitals. Would be good to hear news if its also being rolled out to everyone and not being charged, the site where you access the Cambridge SW still shows it as chargeable.

Hi @ElenaP according to Dexcom the G6 is "supposed" to be calibration free, even though the option to calibrate is still there. But like you I find sometimes it needs doing.
