Hi. Has anyone heard of one whole lemon drank in water a day is good for T2 diabetes? Just been reading a few things on line and some say its good. Also I have a friend with T2 she went for a check up today and her BS has gone down, they ask her what she had been doing and she has lemon juice everyday for gout. Doctor said to keep doing it.

Citric acid, like acetic acid in vinegar will lower BG levels. Quite a few type 2s have a teaspoon of cider vinegar and it does work as an emergency, get the level down quick type measure.

Lemon juice though is more pleasant and with water or with a calorie and carb free lemonade it is refreshing. If you include the yellow flesh too, it is a good source of dietary fibre which helps blood circulation. Use the flesh though, not the pith. That tastes bitter. Limes of course have the same effect.

The effect is not terribly long lasting but every little helps and in addition to the fibre it is a good source of vitamin C. I get a bag of lemons on most supermarket visits. One day I hope to source some Amalfi lemons. You can eat those like oranges.

I've read that vinegar can help increase insulin sensitivity and that it may work by activating AMPK in the liver:

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16630552

Acetic acid activates hepatic AMPK and reduces hyperglycemia in diabetic KK-A(y) mice.

Abstract
Acetic acid (AcOH), which is a short-chain fatty acid, is reported to have some beneficial effects on metabolism. To test the hypothesis that feeding of AcOH exerts beneficial effects on glucose homeostasis in type 2 diabetes, we fed either a standard diet or one containing 0.3% AcOH to KK-A(y) mice for 8 weeks. Fasting plasma glucose and HbA1c levels were lower in mice fed AcOH for 8 weeks than in control mice. AcOH also reduced the expression of genes involved in gluconeogenesis and lipogenesis, which is in part regulated by 5'-AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in the liver. Finally, sodium acetate, in the form of neutralized AcOH, directly activated AMPK and lowered the expression of genes such as for glucose-6-phosphatase and sterol regulatory element binding protein-1 in rat hepatocytes. These results indicate that the hypoglycemic effect of AcOH might be due to activation of AMPK in the liver.

I do not have diabetes
Most alkali on the lemon is on it's skin so try biting on a whole lemon with its skin not peeled once every other day.
There's also a hidden secret with lemon juice try dabbing cayenne pepper powder in 1 liter of lemon juice it acts as a detox agent for your body cheers :D

I use lemon juice every day in my lunchtime salad dressing. I add a small amount of olive oil.
