Can someone give me their thoughts, my daughter has been unwell for weeks now, massive weight loss ,constantly thirsty and urinates all day and night.Out of curiosity we just did her sugar levels, monitor just keeps flasing High.To me this is looking like diabetes any ideas. She is 14yrs old

Get her to the hospital, phone NHS direct now. It may or may not be diabetes but get her help now.

as above tAKE HER STRIGHT TO HOSPITAL PLEASE DO NOT WAIT.

LET US NOW HOW IT GOES,AND PLEASE DO NOT WORRY ONCE ON INSULIN SHE WILL BE FEELING ALOT BETTER.

LUV SENT TO U AND FAMILY.xx

Hi. As others have said go to A&E now. I personally wouldn't worry about NHS Direct as I'm not sure they can add anything as your daughter needs to be seen urgently by a doctor based on her symptoms. Keep her well hydrated and keep off any sugary drinks etc. Yes, the symptoms could be T1 and you need to avoid excess ketones with high blood sugar.

Hiya!

As others have said, straight to the hospital. I hope you are there now! That meter reading in a 14 year-old with the symptoms you've described needs urgent attention to prevent it turning into a life- threatening condition called diabetic ketoacidosis. Google it and you will get the picture! Keep her calm - no exercise- and get her to drink plenty of water. The hospital will either admit her and put her on an insulin drip or will give her an immediate injection and monitor her until the levels come down. She will almost certainly be started on insulin straightaway.

Good luck and let us know how she gets on.

So glad shes ok, she got the help she needed. Now onwards and upwards to learn about it all.

It will take time for both of you to get over your shock and to sort things out.
Please don't let her think her dreams are over
The US swimmer, Garry Hall went on to get 3 gold Olympic medals after diagnosis and there are lots of other sucessful sportsmen and women with T1
Here are just a few
