After starting Insulin therapy I have gained some of the weight I lost and I am trying to stop the rot...more weight ...more Insulin so I'm told. leads onto more Insulin, bigger risk of hypos...had one, don't like it...at all. I'm a newbie:-)
I discussed this with my DSN and She agreed, exercise is great at controlling weight and blood sugars, so I started walking for an hour in the evening...problem is, the next day my blood glucose drops...quite significantly, to the point that I need corrective carbs for driving,..Can anyone offer any advise ? It looks quite hard to do exercise and still control Blood Sugars !

@Mark14400 Exercise can have an effect on blood sugar over a number of hours.

Are you on a basal/bolus insulin regime? Have you tried reducing your evening meal bolus, if so?

Yes I am.....NovoRapid and Lantus. Although I am on a reduced carb diet - by choice. I dropped NovoRapid by 1 unit for each meal, but still dropped to low 4mmol/l today average readings

When you exercise it's a case of trial and error - everyone is different. I had to reduce my bolus and basal but some only need to reduce one or the other. You'll have to find the reduction that works for you, but be aware that exercising at different times of the day may require different reductions.

Ok, so I presume you know your ratios (insulin to carbs) for each meal? You could try adjusting your evening meal ratio slightly to see if that helps maybe.

Or even look at your breakfast bolus the following day, depending on when you're going low. Extra carby snacks are also a possibility to ward off lows.

If you're recently diagnosed, the honeymoon period may be contributing too.

Actually, I don't know, I was diagnosed less than 3 months ago. Carb counting was mentioned to me....I need to do that DAFNE course if I can get a place...

Carb counting is crucial for good control.

It's not hard to learn the basics :) There's an online course here:

You might also like to buy Think Like A Pancreas - it's a great reference book and very popular here for good reason.
