Question about type 2

You absolutely need to check your blood sugar 1 and 2 hours after eating. This explains what you might want to aim for by adjusting your carb intake: http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/14045621.php

I improved my lipid profile by reducing carbs and increasing healthy fat (which means avoiding processed vegetable oils - olive oil is ok as are dairy and animal fats). A high carb/low fat diet will improve your cholesterol numbers somewhat, but that is a bad option for type 2 diabetics as it will raise your blood sugar and triglycerides. A low carb high fat diet will actually improve your lipids even better than a high carb low fat diet, especially triglycerides.

I do test my BS some mornings but as it has usually been under 6 I do not worry too much. I have not tried to test after food so that is an option I should try. I keep my fats down as my cholestrerol is 6.2 which is why my GP put me on Metformin as I cannot tolerate statins. I will test after food and maybe cut out the banana.

Hi,

Try testing before you eat, then 2 hrs later.
If the rise has been larger than 2mmol/l then the carbs in what you have eaten are doing you no favours.
The answer is to cut portions, or change to a lower carb option.
Hope that helps.

I tried testing before and after meals, both breakfast and dinner and my BS went up by 0.8 so I guess my body is OK with the carbs I am eating, thenks for the suggestion
