Hi Levy - I was using Tresiba before the pump, I took my injection in the morning, as you've said it makes no difference when you take it. as it lasts up to 36 hours, even if you miss your dose and then take it later in the day it hardly affects your control
Although @Juicyj has answered your question thoroughly, I'll tag a few more Tresiba users and maybe they can share their experiences too
@mahola, @robert72, @TorqPenderloin
Hi @Levy The only other advice I can offer is to expect some tweaking, it does take a few weeks to settle in and make adjustments, , it's best not to make any adjustments within 3-4 days of the last one as it takes a few days to see the dose settle in, I can remember being disappointed after a couple of weeks thinking it's still not working, it took me a month or 2 to really get the best out of it with the adjustments.
Funny you should bring this up. Been on Tresiba for a few weeks (accidentally, b/c I forgot it was Toujeo I'd taken before; duh) to try to cut down on hypo's. Tried it at night, switched back to morning (same as you, it's easier to remember--also read that it peaks @ nine hours). I'm not happy with the results. Even cut down (gradually) from 26 to 20 units. Still going low around 5 AM--after 21 hrs. Very frustrating. Dr. is warning that excessive hypo's have been shown (recently?) to trigger early onset dementia (!!!!). Always something.Hi all, I'll be starting on Tresiba today or tomorrow. It's the first time in years I've had a basal that I only take once a day (I'm currently on 2x Levemir) and I was just wondering for those who are using it as well - does it matter whether I take it in the morning or at night in your experience? I know it's ultra long acting and so it probably shouldn't matter, but I know packet descriptions and peoples' experiences sometimes don't exactly match so I thought I'd ask.
My mornings are much more regular than my evenings, so I'd be able to take it at the same time more easily in the mornings. But I don't know if people are finding it more stable/better if they take it in the evening?
Try splitting the Tresiba between morning and evening, I found it reduced my early morning lows.Funny you should bring this up. I seriously cannot believe a type 1 would listen to Birenstein. Also, YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO SPLIT THE DOSE. The entire purpose of switching to Tresiba is it lasts for nearly 40 hours. WHAT THE HECK IS THE POINT IN SPLITTING THE DOSE, YOU'RE MESSING WITH THE ENTIRE FUNCTION MECHANICS OF THE DRUG. smhI'm on Tresiba and split my dose morning and evening as recommended by Dr Bernstein. My diabetes specialist doesn't think this should be necessary, but Bernstein does it with all his patients.
It does give me a very level basal level especially at night
SO HOW DOES THIS EVEN MAKE SENSE. No one I know cuts back that much switching from two different basals. And, the fact is Levemir is STRONGER than Tresiba (obviously...that's why Tresiba lasts so long). Levemir is stronger but doesn't last long enough, Tresiba is not so strong because it lasts so long. So, your post makes very little sense and there is NO PEAK with Tresiba, there can't possible be a peak, it's totally flat. there are a million 'other reasons' ones BGs could be 'peaking'.' I also don't know ANY TYPE 1'S, UNLESS VERY OVERWEIGHT WHOM TAKE 47 UNITS OF BASAL OF ANY KIND.@sweetbloodsher you may find you have to bring it down more - I went from 47 units of levemir to 19 of tresiba
Personally, I wouldn't split tresiba. It's really very stable, apart from a slight peak at 9 hours, so if you split it you are effectively introducing more instability, adding in that second peak. I suppose it does also depend a bit on the size of your dose, though - there is no way 47 units would be going in at once!
