question on carbs

“hi i am doing better now i am counting carbs, i have been hypo twice but generally i am ok its just lunch i cannot sort, i have a chease and onion panienie but my sugar levels at 5pm are still 9 to 14 at supper they drop to 3.6 before lunch are round 6 so what am i doing wrong i,m so lost thanks cee”
 
A Tesco cheese panini has 31g of carb. That's the nearest I could find to what you describe, but there would be a few more grams of carb for the onion, too. A lot would depend on the size. I think your lunch may have between 30g and 35g of carb, which would be too much for me.

Maybe you could try a salad or something for lunch, and leave out the bread?

Hi what kind of diabetes do you have? What medication are you on? this will make a big difference to what approach you can use

Hi ceegra, your panini is high in carbohydrate so that is what is pushing your bg up and the reason it is so high late on in the day is the cheese, cheese is a fat so will slow down stomach emptying this will have the effect of peaking your bg later than if your meal was low fat, it is a well known phenomenon called the pizza effect. Search this site and or the internet for 'pizza effect' for more info.
