Hello, i have impared glucose tolerance, can not have a GTT at the moment cause of sensitivity to caffine within the glucose drink the hospital provide, so can i ask if i have this A1c test and my average glucose level comes back as 6%, 7% or even 8% would this mean that i have developed Diabetes? Plus will this test be enough to make a dignosis? Thank-you.

Hi Jumpyjay and welcome to the forum. :)

As someone who has an allergy to something within the GTT soluton used my GP arranged for a lab to make a testing solution specifically for me. Took a looong time but we got there eventually so it can be done. ASK!

I looked at a Lucazade bottle for someone else & was surprised to see even "Lucozade original" contained caffein. It would be very easy to add glucose powder to water to make up the required solution. Just look at the % sugar.

No, don't just look at the sugar, look at everything! That is why it was made up especially for me. If only things were really so simple!!

The GTT I had was just glucose powder and water. It was absolutely disgusting to drink a glass and a half of this mixture ! :(

I believe that they just use Lucozade or something similar nowadays. Quicker, I suppose, than having to make up the solution. I think I would have prefered the Lucozade !

If you are sensitive to caffeine ask for the glucose powder.
