HI,

Just trying to accurate track my carbs (first day)

I've got 140g of potatoes which will be boiled at 25g carb
.... but two average tangerines (afternoon snack) at 24g

Is this right?

If so I'm going to be eating fewer tangerines!

how big are the tangerines? Satsumas are only 5g each and I would have thought most tangerines wouldn't be much more than that. Even a big fat orange (biggest you can get) is only 10g.

About 2.5 inches diameter.

Tried a couple of searches on tangerines.

I think I need a carb counter that deals with units rather than weight (for example one 2.5" diameter tangerine or one 7" banana, that kind of thing as opposed to per 100g)

Depends whether u want a savoury or a sweet touch.
My satsuma yesterday weighed in at 9g of carb but I hadn't eaten one for so long I quite happily 'spent' 7g of my daily 70g carb allowance.I enjoyed every slurpy mouthful!

Try http://cronometer.com Type your food in the box which is half way down on the right hand side

Hi Dougie the best recourse for carb info is The Calorie, Carb & Fat Bible the 2011 edition is now on sale via Amazon for £9.99

Alternatively the small Collins pocket books are very convenient to carry with you while shopping, eating out etc and they are both under each £5.00 both the GI book and the Carb Counter book give the same carb info but the GI book also give the GI of all foods too.

Thanks for all suggestions.

After a couple of very time consuming false starts, I've started using Myfitnesspal.com on line and via my smart phone. It has the mix of features I wanted:

- It's free .....I'm a scot, after all
- You can nearly always find a food if you type in the full name from the wrapping
- You can add foods
- You can check the figures and confirm them as accurate so you get a confidence level
- You can save and recall full meals
- It records calories, carbs and salt (and other stuff I'm not interested in)
- You can record exercise

It's not aligned with diabetes so theres no specific place to put in meter readings but I can wo0rk around this.

Been recording for a whole week now and getting quite used to it.

Now all I've got to do is record lower numbers!!!!
