Hey all I had my dinner as normal tonight which was some lean mince and brown rice, checked my blood before and about 3 hours later and all seemed fine. Then when I checked before driving home about an hour or so after they had risen from 5.4 to 7.9, checked again when I got home just after a 20min trip and they were 9.1. Could this be a late spike from the rice or maybe my basal running out?

Took my lantus after the 9.1 reading and I've just checked again an hour later and it has stopped rising, would this point to my lantus running out?

Although the mince is lean it will still contain fat and this can delay any postprandial spikes, to determine if your lantus is running out you need to fast for the evening up to the point where you'd normally take your evening lantus dose, during this time check your bg regularly to see if your bg starts to climb....if so then you may need to increase your dose by 1-2 units.
