Random Highs

Under normal circumstances, I can control my Blood Glucose quite well (usually keeping it below 7 and above 3.9), however over the last couple of weeks my Blood Glucose seems to have been going up randomly, even several hours after the insulin should have 'peaked'.
An example was this afternoon, I hadn't had anything to eat between breakfast and lunch, I injected the same amount I have every morning when I have toast; I hit 13.7 at lunch today

My treatment currently stands at:
Novorapid - Insulin ratio of 1:6*
Lantus - 24 units

Last HbA1c: 34 (without constant hypos)

Has anyone else suffered from this? And did it just clear up or did you have to take any steps to prevent it?

*This ratio has worked for me for months, no highs and only one or two lows (from delaying eating for too long)

One idea someone put forward was, that since it is exam season for me, stress could be affecting my Blood Glucose, any truth to this?

Stress can certainly raise BG levels. Hopefully they will return to normal after exams. If not, maybe your ratio's have changed slightly and may need adjusting ?

Stress can do this to bg levels,so if the high readings coincide with your exams then you have the answer. It could also be injection site problems where the insulin hasn't absorbed properly, so do make sure you rotate regularly where you inject.

Thanks for the reply, it probably is just stress building up over the exams. They'll be over by the end of next month, hopefully everything will return to normal then.

Could be stress. Could be failure of your basal insulin for some reason. It's worth checking your Lantus is OK.

Don't underestimate stress. I've had readings of 20+ after no food (Idon't eat breakfast) mid morning when in an extremely stressful work situation. Normal insulin intake from Levermir, and NovoRapid with my last meal the evening before.
