Rapeseed oil

Thanks for this, i've only used olive oil...I have just changed the milk i use and it has rapeseed oil in it...very happy now...Thanks...x

This is a very old thread. Milk with rapeseed oil in it? Really?!?
Seed oils are extremely inflammatory to the human body. You are better off with natural cold pressed virgin olive oil, coconut oil, lard or butter.

Note that the modified rapeseed used to make Canola is banned from the UK it being GM crop. The UK does used Hexane to remove the erucic acid content, but is heat treated to remove the excess from the vat. Note, erucic acid is toxic to humans. The cheaper the oil, the more likely it is not using low erucic content plant sources since the modified plants are apparently less productive and therefore more expensive to cultivate. Some processes use analine to remove the toxins and clarify the product instead of hexane

The warning about over heating rapeseed oil and re-using it is not to be ignored. There was a scandal in Spain some years ago because the ship shops and fast food outlets were over using the oil, an it led to some fatalities and large number of hospital admissions. The cause was stated to be overuse of cheap vegetable oils in hot weather.

With Rapeseed oil as with Olive oil I always use cold pressed oils if it don't say cold pressed I don't buy it.

I use Rapseed and Olive oil for frying foods - what do you suggest is better for frying food - some people say they just use butter to fry foods - any experts out there? - it would be helpful to know what is safest/best?

Duck or goose fat are my usuals or butter at a pinch.
Would never use seed or fruit oils for frying.

Hey Thicko here - I have never used duck or goose fat, are they beside the cooking oils in the supermarket and can I ask you why you would never use seed or fruit oils for frying? cheers

They're usually in the chiller section (although I get mine from Amazon mainly).
Seed oils are thought of as being pretty unhealthy being highly processed and high in PUFA's which can be inflammatory so I avoid them.
Fruit oils like olive and avocado I wouldn't heat up to fry in but they may be ok cold (again I don't use them at all).
If you only use a pan with animal fats then you don't see any build up of that brown sticky stuff that usually coats pans when seed oils are used. I don't want that inside me so avoid them.
Some may say I'm a dietary elitist though but as there's no need for seed or fruit oils in our diets then why use them?

Edit to add this is the goose fat I use.

80% of my meals are raw, so it’s olive, avocado, coconut oil... un heated. Butter for eggs, cooked meat. Etc is on the grill or in the air fryer.
