I've been doing the low(ish) carb thing and have got my HB1AC down from 8.1 in July 08 to 6.0 in December 2008 and am hoping for anything below a 6 next week at annual review. It's been really hard to maintain the low carb diet, so I give myself occasional treats, say, once a month, of a slice of cake or pizza. Just how damaging are occasional treats that send readings through the roof? Is it ok to do it every so often as a safety valve to keep the diet on track, or is it still storing up trouble in the long run as regards diabetic complications?
Thank you
