Raw food diet

Hi. I am 5 stone overweight and desperately want to lose the weight and feel better :( . I have been vegetarian for 20 years and have recently been told that going on a raw vegan diet would help me lose the weight and eventually lose the need for medication ( I take Metformin twice a day). Would just like to know if anyone has gone down this route ? All advice and comments welcome !

I think the best thing to do is to ask your GP for a referral to a dietician and discuss vegetarian/vegan options that would both help with controlling BG and achieve weight loss, while still ensuring you get the vitamins and minerals you need.

A vegetarian or vegan diet combined with metformin will also increase your risk of B12 deficiency, so it may be a good idea to have your B12 level checked because it will be even harder to maintain a good level of B12 on a vegan diet than on a vegetarian diet.

Good luck, I could never be a vegetarian as I don't like much veg I certainly wouldnt be able to eat any of it raw!!

I was vegetarian then became diabetic, I'm afraid my health won over. I tried for 6 mths to continue as a veggie. But in the end my diet was doing nothing for me especially in the winter, so I gave in. But their are lo carb vegetarians out there, google low carb veggie.
