I have been abused and misrepresented here too -- it happens sometimes -- but as diabetics we all need to stick together.
Maybird said:I think it is best if I leave this forum as it seems that what I thought was in all innocence just a simple and sensible thing to suggest and what I would do myself but it put everyone up in arms about it and most got completely the wrong end of the stick and seemed to interpret it as... don't take any notice of any advice on here ...I was really upset that people could take it like that as it was certainly not what I meant at all and that you made me look like the bad guy
It was not even a suggestion that warranted such a volume of answers, a simple yes or no about it being a good suggestion or not was enough
I was in no way knocking the advice given on here I am sure you help a lot of people and that can only be a good thing and you of course should do that. I just thought it was a good idea to say with some of the advice you give...it may not work for everyone and to maybe check with your GP or DN before you start something new..if of course you trust them it seems many do not have very good ones..Of course I was not meaning that for every little bit of advice on here just the more serious stuff like complete diet changes etc.
I thought this was a forum where any advice or suggestions were welcomed but it seems not.
I have noticed it is mostly the same few people who answer the posts on here so perhaps they don't like anyone else suggesting things Anyway I will leave the forum as I feel I have been completely torn to bits on here by some of the not very sensitive members

I am so sorry about your brother that was so hard for you to loose him2christine said:Don't leave maybird, your input is very good. I still say if I had found this site two years ago my brother would still be alive ,his doctor allowed him to walk about with blood glucose of 44mmols,because he had a loud voice and frightened the receptionists. he weighed 30 st and they ordered a ambulance at 4am, still had not arrived by 14.30 hrs I drove from Skegness to Loughborough ,pushed him my little wagonr and got him to the Leicester general in two hours, still waiting for bariatric ambulance, the hospital got him on insulin sent him home after two weeks gp never saw him, dead in three months.

Maybird, you may be right about consulting the doctor before changing things, i dont know whats best for people to do, im just a dumb builder, im not an expert at anything health related, but warning people to not listen to peoples advice and experiences relating to db is in itself dangerous, love it or hate it lchf diets do wonders for many (not all) diabetics and i believe it is especially a good route for newly diagnosed people to try and get themselves on track, bearing in mind that when i was diagnosed i was in a deep dark hole and the people on the forum saved my life, the advice i tried was lchf and it worked so why wouldnt i try to help other people in that same hole, so when someone is fighting against you, saying be careful, this is not good advice, this is dangerous advice, ask your doctor not people on here, i would say is very upsetting, it is good advice, it does work, and most of all lchf isnt dangerous, there are people that disagree with this, thats fine! they put up evidence and a debate happens, the newbie gets to read all this stuff and make decisions, people say "im not medical" "ask you hcp" etc etc so often its boring, so there isnt any risk of people knowing that if they have a good doctor or dsn they should of course ask their advice, i would say its often the case that people find themselves here because they were not given any advice at all, my advice from my doctor was, and i quote "your a ticking bomb, you are within 5 years of major organ failure, no more mcdonalds for you" and i was sent home,
i dont mind you arguing against lchf at all, show the world why you think this isnt the way to go for you, why you think it and what benefits you have seen from your way of control, you can as many do put up links of clever folks agreeing with you, its all good and it all adds to the choices people have and stuff to learn about, i could be wrong, lchf could be wrong im just bassing my advice to people on what worked for me, i dont want to push something dangerous on anyone, i do agree we should take the advice of people on here and research it the best we can before making decisions.
i dont think you should leave, i dont believe anyone should leave, us all having different ideas is what makes this forum different to a blog, if there where a one size fits all treatment for db we could all sit here playing candy crush or comparing recipes.
im sorry if im rambling, anything i type that is longer than 2 lines starts to sound to me like im rambling

Sorry but what makes you think I was arguing against low carb diets or any other diets come to that. My post was purely about checking with your doctor or DN before starting something new diet wise. Being new to all this I would have found that a very helpful suggestion if someone else had posted it on the forum. I am as I think many newbies would be a bit worried about changing what my DN recommended which I felt was good advice if I do need to change it though I will run it by her for her input
This whole thing has got totally changed now from what the original post was about.
