Dear All,

After administering my injection, I have accidently pricked myself on the tall finger with the hypodermic syringe needle and I am rather a bit concerned about this? Should I contact my local A/E ASAP? :(

Reb,

As the needle has not been in contact with anyone else, it should be fine. Make sure you change the needle before using syringe again, if its disposable just throw it away.

Technically, it is what is termed a 'needle stick' injury. However, there should be no problem as you haven't injected any more Insulin. It is also your own needle not somebody else's.

So just wash it with hot soapy water and forget all about it. I have also stuck myself a few times, not a problem.... :)

Dear Nigel,

The needle was only in contact with myself and this is a disposable syringe as I have immediately disposed of it into the appropriate sharps container, when this is filled I hand it into my local pharmacy for cremation.
