Reading dropped AFTER lunch!

OK, so now I'm confused!

Slowly learning about the condition, what it does and how to deal with it - I've started taking readings this week for the first time.

Now - today I decided to take a bg reading before my lunch, one hour after and two hours after - just to see what happened.

Before lunch it was 10.5
(A plate of shepherds pie)
One hour after lunch it was 3.7
(eat a semi-sweet biscuit)
Two hours after lunch it was 2.7

I had a headache but otherwise felt ok.

Anybody got any ideas about what's going on here? I thought sugar levels normally rose after eating - especially a meal that contains some carbs (potatoes).

Yours truly

Hi pandy54.

Are you on any medication, your profile says diet only ?

The readings are not at all what one would expect for such a meal, especially as you were high to start with ?

Hi Cugila

I'm on Glucophage 1500mg plus Gliclazide (half of 80mg tab) per day.

My last average reading was done in July and was 9.5

This all seems very strange...

Hi Pandy.

That amount of medication is not a large amount and I wouldn't have thought that it would have such a marked effect. There are other medications, not Diabetes related which can have an effect on Bg levels. Is there any other medication you take ?

The next thing is after preparing your meal and potatoes did you scrupulously wash and dry your hands ....? Before testing and getting a result of 10.5 mmol/l ?

You also need to check your meter is coded (if required) correctly and that test strips are in date, along with a control solution check for accuracy.

Other than that it is definitely a mystery, maybe Shepherd's Pie is a cure for Diabetes ...... :D

I wish.
