Be kind to me I am a newbie.

I felt unwell so did a reading and it was 3, had a sugar drink and is now back up to 5, but I still feel awful.

My doctors want me to add another 500mg metformin tomorrow, I am worried if I take it that I will be low even more.

Help, be kind

Carol

Hi Carol.

The reason you feel awful is because 3 mmol/l is well into hypo territory. You did the right thing in having a sugary fast acting drink. Now you need to have a small carby snack to stabilise the levels and you will gradually feel better. Had you eaten prior to this ?

I had eaten about 2pm, guess I need to get it into my head I need to eat more often !

I am worrying myself stupid, I have to go into Great Ormond Street Hospital with my son on Sunday for 2 weeks, I dont feel enough in control of this to be away, I guess I am going to the right place though !!

The extra metformin is a worry, but my doctor has assured me it wont cause a hypo ???

As for the Metformin, you need to make sure that you eat otherwise you can get into hypo territory, contrary to what the Doc says ! :?

As a T2 your liver will dump glucose into your system and will raise your BG levels back to a more normal level. So do not worry unduly.

Hi Carol,
i hope this may help! A little advice, I try to eat when i wake up!
My daily routine i try to stick to
wake up at 8am,
breakfast 9am,
Lunch at 1.30pm at the latest,
snack if i need it at 3pm, usually i go for a handful of nuts or half a apple and a bit of cheese!
Evening meal, 7pm,
If need it a snack before bed, usually a little bit of apple and a small handful of nuts and a bit of cheese!

I am not on any pills, but if i skip meals and forget to eat! I have suffered Hypo's depending on what i am doing, My worst was 2.8, luckly my little puppy bless him Digby only had him 5 weeks was sat in front of me barking! And pulling at my arm! I used machine and realised why i was feeling so dizzy and banging head!
