Readings showing non diabetic

Type of diabetes
Type 2
Hi all
In January I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
I was put on metformin and another tablet (which I cant remember name of but started with a g ) which was to fetch my blood sugars down
After the initial shock of being told this I realised I wasn't sure how to work my machine for testing blood so went to my local chemist to see if he could help
I asked him is it possible to get rid of diabetes or is it for life
His reply was if you cut your self does it heal
This got me thinking our bodies are a marvellous machine so I decided to loose weight (2 and half stone to date)
And started taking my dog out for brisk walks at least once a day
Whilst I'd been on the tablets I started getting chest pains and informed the nurse at my Drs surgery about this
She insisted that these weren't normal side effects of the tablets I was taking so sent me to hospital as an urgent chase
When I explained everything to the hospital they where annoyed that they didn't take me off the tablets (as I hadn't had any symptoms before taking these )
They sent me back to nurse at my gp surgery (after they'd done an heart scan which was fine) and sent a letter telling the nurse as id lost so much weight to let me try managing without any tablets
The nurse was reluctant to do this but I insisted I wanted to try
After coming off the tablets I suffered no more chest pains and on my next visit to nurse and having blood test again all my sugar levels where back to normal (the nurse looked a little shocked)
I've been off the tablets now for almost 2 months and all my readings on my glucose testing strips are showing up as being none diabetic
Including fasting in the mornings and dropping back to normal levels 2 hrs after food

I have another blood test booked in for the end of July and hoping everything stays the same

Has anyone else had a similar experience

And does anyone think it's possible to actually beat diabetes
Quoting the chemists words if you cut yourself does it heal

Ps
I was having loads of takeaways/junk food before the diagnosis
I now eat healthier and intent to keep doing so
And for anyone wondering I'm 53 years old and this was probably the kick up the backside I needed to stop me going to an early grave

Glad to see other people with success stories especially the ones like me who's dr/nurse told them it wasn't possible
I think they should get their heads out of the sand and start to look at diabetes in a different manor that way maybe a lot more people will believe if they change their lifestyle anything is possible

Hi @Gaz3845, well done on reducing your blood sugar levels to non-diabetic. There are many Type 2s on here who have done that in a similar way to you.
But there is disagreement about whether we have 'beaten' or cured our diabetes. We need to maintain our new way of eating. If we eat as we did before we will become diabetic again. So no I don't think we have beaten the condition, but we are controlling it.

I got down to Hba1c of 47 very fast, was seeing normal numbers for BG all the time, so I am now sticking to the same foods and not testing - on my pension I can't afford it. - and I need to buy new clothes now, as I was shrinking, and am now losing a bit of weight again. I decided not to take the tablets which made me feel that life was not worth living, which gave me a great incentive to stick to low carbs. I feel younger than I did before diagnosis.
