For my first christmas I bought a "living tree". It used to live outside all year in a large pot, then a week before Christmas i used to bring the tree in, spray it to get rid of any insects and decorate it. Had to get it back outside Boxing Day though as it didn't like a central heated house.. It eventually died on me so I bought a fibre optic one - don't even need to decorate it. lol

The sad tale of the Christmas tree:

We used to have a real tree and it sat by the front window but eventually got relegated to the other end of the living room by the french windows, and finally into the conservatory, partly due to shedding and partly because the dogs considered it a watering post. Then my husband decided he wanted an artificial one for these reasons, and I had to laugh as it shed like mad after the first year. So it too was relegated to the conservatory...and eventually ditched as it was going bald. I now have a tiny tree that I made donkey's years ago from an Oasis cone and tinsel to have on my desk at work, it's a bit battered but neither sheds nor gets wee'd on. I buy a pot of forced hyacinths to scent the house instead. But I would definitely have the real thing any day!

A real tree in the cottage confuses the hounds ! Pine trees are also amazing flammable and my only heating is an open fire, so no real tree for me. I also have little LED battery powered lights on my tiny artificial tree.

I light two candles every night for all the pets we have lost over the years

Your cherry tree sounds really nice , what a good idea x

Actually have two Xmas trees ( only wife knows why) both artificial

Tree number two

Im driving up to Stockton on Tees in the morning to spend a few days with my daughter.
She has just been on the phone to say we are putting her tree up on Saturday,[drat]I will now have to do two.

Why murder a real tree?

Get a fake one that will last for years.

Better for the 30 or so trees that won't be unnecessarily felled, stuck in a centrally heated house to die slowly for your pleasure, then get chucked onto a dump somewhere.

As you can tell, seeing real trees really upsets me. It's so pointless.

I have loved reading all your posts voting so far is swaying to a fake one now my hubby is all confused.com.
The same as others maybe as we no longer have our dog they all want a real one as he would of loved it for his toilet area hated the cold but then whippets are big babies. Also the smell of the pine.

That will be nice for you,at least you both know what you are doing lol.

I think so I was all set to get the other one out o.k it is over 14 years old and it is falling apart I was hoping to get one more year out of it.

Real tree for us.
Have had plenty of decent artificial trees over the years, but for the last few years a real one .

When we do finally get the tree up (not until 18th Dec - Mr Chris' birthday) its a fake fibre optic one. The needles from a real one get stuck in the carpet and hang around for months after. You can actually get a pine spray that smells like a real tree to spray on your fake one.

If you have never experienced the great times putting up a real tree, cleaning up the pines every day, the wee dog having a wee pee or the cat getting stuck and bringing the tree down, placing presents around the tree, and trying to find out which bulb is the one that is not working.
You're missing something good about Christmas. before you throw away the poor old tree

After many years of all that fun it may time to get a fake .
@Snowy12 please save your tree for another year.
