I haven't posted for a while but I got my 3 month Hb results to-day
October 2011 HbA1c = 12.6%
December 2011 HbA1c = 8%
March 2012 HbA1c = 6.7%
She who must be obeyed ( ie the nurse ) says that I should aim to get it down to 6.5% , I said I want it under 5% so must work harder .

I also packed ciggies in on 11/12/11 , but went onto nicotine replacement therapy , gum and inhalator , I've noticed that my neuropathy seems to have been getting worse , both feet but the tingling seems to have spread nearly to my knees and the pain on the soles of my feet has been nasty . This may sound odd but my blood pressure had also gone up ... hmmm ... nicotine restricts blood vessels and I already have CVI ( Chronic venous insufficiency ) and the neuropathy is both CVI and diabetes related .. it seems that I may have been getting more nicotine from the gum and inhalator than I was from the ciggies . So no nicotine since Saturday last week and the pain is less, tingling retreating down the legs and blood pressure back to 130/80 ( was up to 168/104 ) .. no more nicotine ! Lesson learned .

Embrace the cauliflower , love the cauliflower , munch the cauliflower ... good job I like cauliflower .

Take care , stop smoking , eat cauliflower .

Hamish the daft Scotsman in Ipswich

That's it, tomorrow I'm buying cauliflower (haven't smoked since Sunday) :D Congrats on your HbA1c - coming down nicely

Great reduction in HBA1C ... well done!!!!! And stick with the non smoking - i am over 9 months in...sometimes still get a kind of craving but it soon passes :)

I find that doing a mad funky chicken dance , flapping my arms and squacking seems to help , apparently each mad craving only lasts for 3 minutes , the funky chicken routine takes my mind off it and amuses my colleagues .. who thinks that this 58 yr old programmer is bonkers :D

All programmers are bonkers, I should know I am one and have employed many over the years.

Great HbA1c result

Again an ex smoker of 15 months, gave up using gin last year much to the anti smoking nurses disgust.

Take care Hamish you live in the best place in the country, low crime rates, biggest number of parks and open spaces, produced the two most successful England football managers, shame about the traffic lights but :shh: lets not tell everyone.

Persuaded Oh to give up smoking at the same time he bought a new car.

Three years later we worked out what he would have spent on cigarettes and with the money he saved, he can now replace the old one.

A former smoker myself, I know that the only way to give up is to have a strong incentive. With me it was pregnancy, but almost everyone has an incentive....a holiday, or an improvement in health.

So good luck Hamish, add up the savings and treat yourself.
