Recent Change To Gliclazide

Hi there, I was first diagnosed Diabetes 1, 2 years ago after being admitted to hospital with diabetic ketoacidosis. Later that diagnosis was changed to diabetes 2. I was placed on insulin injections and metformin. In March, my blood test results showed I had normalised to that of a person without diabetes, but told that it didn't mean It couldn't return later in life. So I was changed from Insulin injections to Gliclazide tablets in March 2014.

I would like to know what happens to one's blood pressure when you have low blood glucose? Does high/low blood glucose affect blood pressure?

Edit: I'm a bit confused. Although my blood sugar is normal now, I was taken to hospital last week with chest pains. After all the tests were done, they found that I have high blood pressure. Am I missing something?

nope, they can be independent of each other, it means your BP isn't caused by high sugar and I guess diabetes,
a lot of T2 when diagnosed have high BP and cholesterol/triglyceride caused by high sugar
 
Ok. Thanks Jack. I guess I have a way to go before I can really say I'm ok.
 
High blood sugars can cause the elasticity of the arteries to reduce. If they cannot stretch you get high BP. Reducing the BG levels will reduce the loss of elasticity but will not return it. Note that this also happens with age and with many other conditions. It just is :(
 
Thanks for the information Andrew. Everything just seems to be so rapid since I was only diagnosed with diabetes 2 years ago. Before that I had asked my doctor several times if I had diabetes because of various symptoms I was having, and tests did not show it up. Then two years ago I go into hospital with severe Diabetic Ketoacidosis. I'm blown away by how quickly things seem to be going. But I guess maybe the signs were there for some time.
 
I agree that high BG and BP can go hand in hand if they reflect damage done to blood vessels etc. Apart from that I don't think they are closely related
 
Hi mozzy, well done on getting your bs under control, sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with high blood pressure, seems unfair after looking after yourself so well with the diabetes, but at least they know now and can give you medication to bring it down so it does not cause you any problems later on.
Just interested on what tests did yr doc do back when u started getting symptoms? Only reason I ask is I had a urine strip test when I first got symptoms a year back and again literally 2 days before I was diagnosed for a urine infection, after being taken to hospitals with a level of 26 and rising, both showed neg. For glucose, and at hospital I was negative for urine infection :/ dodgy test strips maybe? I read that a healthy kidney doesn't start spilling glucose into the urine til ~ 10mmol/l but since then my levels especially mornings are well above that. It wasn't really til then I started getting blurred vision etc too. It's a weird one this diabetes!
 
Hi sunday. The doctor didn't go very far. He tested my blood sugar. Did my blood pressure. I don't ever remember a urine test. Of course every time he tested my blood sugar it was normal.

Since my mother has diabetes 2 and is obese, I thought needed to be checked regularly as my BMI was over 30 at the time.
