Hi folks,

I have been having hypoglycemia recently (6 months) at the onset of a new med prescription. I have had to reduce my insulin units from 44 to at least 12 so as to maintain a "normo" blood sugar. Anxiety and tremor are associated with this change and night sweats. I am pretty sure it is the med, as described as side effects in the blurbs, and in waiting for FDA clinical trials "divalproex and hypoglycemia- Clinical Trials IV?". The tremor has had a bad effect on my daily life. I am waiting for my GP to refer me to another doctor who is knowledgeable in physical and mental interactions. Thanks for reading. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi @Erin.
I don't have answers for you, just an observation.

Why does your doctor assume the hypoglycaemia is your meds and that your tremors and your mental issues are the cause for your symptoms.
I have essential tremor and restless legs syndrome, and hypoglycaemia, if I don't eat properly!
The cause is not the stress of tremor or mental issues that causes your blood glucose levels to rise and drop sufficiently to cause hypoglycaemia.
It is the meds!
Or could it be something else, it could be whatever carbs and sugars you still eat even if you are following a low carb diet.
Or it could be something that triggers your symptoms that you are either intolerant susceptible or allergic to.
My own instincts tell me you need to be referred if not already to a specialist endocrinologist that has experience with hypoglycaemia and is able to get the tests necessary for a true diagnosis.

Well, the reason is that this 44 to 12 approx. insulin only became necessary on the initiation of the drug, and the other details I gave about the blurbs, and the FDA clinical trials. There are other devastating symptoms with this drug, unrelated to blood sugars; also a resident dr. asked me if I was having trouble with my blood sugars on this drug. Thank you for reading.

p.s. I forgot to add, I have had to eliminate all glyclazides and metformins as well. I will be seeing a pharmacist soon, but since taking this drug, I have not been able to get out of my house.

No it's not a problem.
To be fair, if I was getting your symptoms and outcomes from even a trial drug, I would arrange for a consult to desist from taking this drug and get another opinion.

Thank you. I don't pretend to know all physiological circumstances from one person to another. I have seen quite a few articles in my search (just recently one from Italy IC research on epileptics at therapeutic level) confirming this guess.
