Hi Fellow sufferers,
I was recently diagnosed as having type 2 diabetes after much dithering by the doctor and 3 sets of blood tests. I am overweight and on Statins for high cholesterol but no other treatment apart from diet control.
My problem is that I have been on artificial sweeteners for years and drink only diet coke in an attempt to keep my weight in check but I now find out from the internet that artificial sweeteners are "evil" things to be avoided. Does anyone have any advice on this or shall I just have to lose my sweet tooth altogether? I think the only thing I would need sweetened would be my coffee and I don't fancy giving that up :-(
Thank you all for any advice.

Hi
some artificial sweeteners, such as Aspartame, are not very nice, but others are OK I like Splenda myself. In addition, Xylitol, a natural product is lower carb and so fine if used in moderation. I find it useful If I need the texture of sugar, as in Meringues.
You don't have to give up everything sweet.
What the dieticians often don't tell you is thar starches are sources of blood glucose too and you may need to cut them back quite a lot.
If you don't already have a meter, get hold of one, so you can learn the effects of different foods on your blood glucose.

Thank you both for your replies I will certainly be taking your advice "on board".
I'm pretty new to this and find it all a bit confusing at times but I know where to come for advice now.
Thank you very much :D
