Good morning all. I have just been diagnosed with type 2,im 50,smoke far too much and drink approx 60 cans stella a week, also eat lots of chocolate but i am underweight. Heads all over the place, pretty sure doctor said my reading 8.9,wouldnt give me a monitor to measure blood levels, trying to get my head around having to change diet etc

Hey. I'm new to the forum as well.
I'm not type 2 but my dad is. They gave him a blood glucose monitor but I've heard so many people with type 2 saying they were never given one.

Hi. Do get hold of a meter and one where the test strips aren't too expensive. I note you say you are underweight? Have you lost weight unexpectedly recently? If so it's possible you are late onset T1 and not T2. If you continue to lose weight and your BS keeps rising then do discuss with the GP. Either way do reduce the carbs in your diet and that include much of that lager! For chocolate try 85% Dark rather than the sugary rubbish most of us buy.

Sometimes life just gives you a kick up the backside that we do need now and again , it sounds as if you may have just had one , look at it as an opportunity to live a healthier lifestyle and i'am sure you will soon reap the benefits , good luck .
